Sandy Koufax versus the Cubs
If you'd like to hear audio play by play from this day in 1957, click here.Sandy Koufax is pitching for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Dick Drott is pitching for the Cubs. Guess who won?
Actually, Koufax didn't have his A-game that day. Ernie Banks hit a 3-run home run off him in the 6th. On the other hand, he did win the game (7-5) and struck out 12.

Jimmie Foxx

On this day in history the Cubs acquired the legendary Hall of Fame slugger Jimmie Foxx. Unfortunately for the Cubs it was 1942, not 1932. Oh what a difference a decade would have made.
His nickname was THE BEAST.
