Bill Killefer

They called him Reindeer.

This ex-Cub (shown in this picture on a beach in California with his teammates Grover Cleveland Alexander and Speed Martin--Reindeer's the one in the middle) was a great Cubs catcher and a decent manager, but his greatest accomplishment may have been controlling his darkly alcoholic best friend Alexander.

Reindeer died exactly fifty years ago today.
