Ron Santo

Would you believe that Ron Santo is 70 years old today?

Happy birthday Ron.

In honor of Ron's birthday, we're going to replay one of our favorite moments in Cubs broadcasting: The day that Harry and Ron discussed Ron's toupee.

Lew Fonseca

Lew Fonseca was a big-league player that played for, among other teams, the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago White Sox between 1921-1933. Fonseca was born on this day in 1899.

John Dillinger

John Herbert Dillinger was born on this day in 1902.

Sure, he was a notorious bank robber, but he was also something else: A fan of the Chicago Cubs.

He attended his last Cubs game just a few weeks before he was gunned down outside the Biograph Theater; exactly one month after his 32nd birthday.

(The movie about his life, starring Johnny Depp, opens on July 1)

Notorious Birthdays

Anton Cermak was born on this day in 1873. He becomes the Mayor of Chicago, attends the World Series at Wrigley Field with FDR, and then is shot right in front of the President a few months later. Read his story here.

Billy Jurges was born on this day in 1908, during the Cubs last championship season. He later becomes a Cub and is shot by a female fan. All the details of that notorious event are here.

Chuck Connors

The physically imposing 6'5" Connors played first base for the Cubs in 1951 and hit a whopping two home runs in 200 at bats, not exactly the kind of power you want from a big first baseman. That performance earned him a trip back to the minors.

Luckily for him, the Cubs minor league team at the time was in Los Angeles. While he was playing in the Cubs minor league system he got a bit part in the movie Pat & Mike (starring Spencer Tracy--1952). That led him to quit baseball for good and become a full-time actor. By 1958, he was starring in The Rifleman, which aired until 1963. He also starred in Old Yeller, Soylent Green, and Roots, and is arguably the greatest Cubs actor of all-time (other than Sammy Sosa during his "corked bat" press conference).

He was born on this day in 1921.

Jack Quinlan

He died way too young, in a car accident in 1965. Jack Quinlan was the play-by-play man for the Cubs on their radio broadcasts from the late 50s until the time of his death. And he was a good one...

AUDIO: Jack Quinlan play by play from 1964

If he were alive today, Jack would be turning 82.
