Goose Gossage is celebrating a birthday today. The former Cubs hurler (and Hall of Famer) is 58 years old.
Terry Cashman, the writer/performer of this baseball song about the Cubs, is also celebrating a birthday. He's exactly ten years older than Goose.

Forbes Field

The last game in the history of Forbes Field was played on this day in 1970. The Cubs were the opponent, just as they were for the first game at Forbes Field on June 29, 1909 (a hundred years ago tommorrow).
The Pirates beat Three Finger Brown in 1909 (on their way to winning the 1909 NL pennant), and they beat Fergie Jenkins and Bill Hand in a double header sweep in 1970. The Pirates won the division that season too.
The Cubs finished in second place both years.
